Since 2013 Electrabel, Tractebel Engineering and Alstom have been working on a motor replacement project integrating the results of a joint R&D phase involving all three parties. These motors power containment unit spray systems and are to be installed inside power station reactor buildings. They must be able to stand significant temperature and pressure variations. The effectiveness of their seals is therefore essential to their correct operation. Pascal Parent, consultant working on behalf of Syngenia and project head, has followed the empirical testing carried out on the 3rd of these new generation motors which has been installed at Tihange 1.
This photo was taken after the tests that successfully validated the seals and verified their electrical and mechanical performances.
